As we have less than two weeks to raise pledges before one “celebrity” takes the 17th Annual Bemidji Jaycees BRRRmidji Plunge, I took a few minutes to visit with the new executive director of the Northwoods Battered Women’s Shelter Allison Forte, as well as advocate Erin Schneider, on how they’re coming along with a new facility, as well as the range of other services they offer survivors of domestic abuse.
Erin said that 864 people were turned away due to the current 12-bed facility always being at capacity, and 421 of those were children.
Allison said that, if all goes well, a new 24-bed facility can begin construction either this year or the next.
If you would like to help by submitting a pledge, please designate the Northwoods Battered Women’s Shelter and me at this SignMeUp link.
